The Other Side of Boots
This experimental print was created to give a modern image the appearance of age. Originally a glossy inkjet print, it was toned in a coffee solution. The exposure to water removed the gloss, leaving a matte, pearl-like surface. As it dried, the paper buckled slightly — an imperfection that enhances its authentic, timeworn character.
ABOUT ARTWORK
What could be a straightforward pose becomes something layered and psychological, shaped as much by her presence as by the photographer’s frame. Her seated pose, legs grounded and slightly apart, establishes both strength and openness. What draws the viewer most, however, is her gaze: steady, unflinching, and charged with intensity. It’s a look that holds power, more commanding than submissive, more declarative than decorative. The boots add an unexpected touch of attitude, contrasting with her bare body and giving the composition a contemporary edge.
DETAILS
The sepia tone softens the contrasts while evoking a timeless quality, bridging classical nude with modern photographic portraiture. This print is best appreciated up close, where its aged character can be seen in detail. For this reason, it has been matted in a small 18×24 passepartout, perfectly sized to fit into a desk frame.
